Guiness World Record attempt - Longest Line of Moving Bicycles in Hyderabad on June 12, 2017

On June 12 this year, the bicycle completes 200 years since its invention.

Bicycle as we know it today, was invented and used for the first time by a German Civil Servant, Karl Von Drais in 1817, who called his invention Laufmaschine (German for “running machine”)
It was the first commercially successful two-wheeled, steerable, human-propelled machine, commonly called a velocipede, and nicknamed hobby-horse or dandy horse.

Drais’ interest in finding an alternative to the horse was the starvation and death of horses caused by crop failure in 1816. On his first reported ride from Mannheim on June 12, 1817, he covered 13 km (eight miles) in less than an hour.

To commemorate the Day, and to celebrate the bicycle, Hyderabad Trails with the support of a host of organizations and initiatives in the city viz. Ecologize etc, plans to organize a bicycle chain ride.

The Guiness World Record for the single longest line of moving bicycles was created on 23 January 2017 wtih 1,186 bicycles in Dhaka,Bangladesh.

We are confident that we can easily achieve the feat of breaking this record with 2,000 bicycles.

Come, be a part of this historic moment, and support us in achieving a world record for our city, and for our bicyclists.

You don’t have to own a bicycle to be a part of the bicycle ride. We are going to tie-up with bicycle sharing initiatives to source the bicycles. However, if you do own a bicycle, it would be really helpful if youc ould bring it to the event.
