ABInBev - Hack The World Hackathon in Benglauru from February 3-5, 2017

When you walk into your local liquor store or supermarket and browse through the beer aisle, what do you see? Rows upon rows of beer stacked into perfect displays, with price promotions and marketing messages aimed to encourage you to buy that particular product. This is the result of a substantial investment made each year in activity that can impact shelf pricing and retail execution through incremental shelf space, displays, and featured placements. For ABInBev the goal of this investment is to generate consumer willingness to pay, resulting in improved market share and revenue.

However, identifying the factors that truly drive incremental volume, market share, and revenue growth can be a complex task. Better insights are needed to understand which promotional levers provide the best return on investment for ABInBev. Additionally efforts to support insights through pre & post event visualizations haven’t been successfully leveraged.

Challenge

Using the images and data provided, create a hack that creates the best solution for ABInBev to gain better insights into the effectiveness of their investment toward driving sales.

Ideas to Consider

– Capture changes in price promotional activity over time
– Data modeling to quantify performance drivers for sales, share, or volume lift and calculate ABInBev return on investment
– Build a tool or interface to support data visualization for better understanding of key insights

To accomplish this, we will provide images of products in stores to help showcase the real life scenarios of consumer trade promotional pricing.

In addition, we will provide datasets in excel or csv form that will contain a variety of other variables. These may include CPI, GDP growth, product distribution, marketing spend, trade promotion spend, temperature, and more as well as sales volumes.
