The 36th XLRI Maxi Fair 2015 to be held at XLRI Campus on 17th and 18th January, 2015 is to witness unique student initiatives.
The students of XLRI are to participate in a cleaning drive in the city as part of the Swachh Bharat Abhiyan which has increasingly been gaining momentum across the country. The drive organized by the Marketing Association of XLRI (MAXI) will be held at Sonari, Jamshedpur on 16th January, 2015.
Around 100 student volunteers from XLRI will be cleaning up the area in partnership with JUSCO (Jamshedpur Utilities and Services Company). 15 schools across Jamshedpur (including Sacred Heart Convent and DAV Public School) have been invited to participate in this initiative with students cleaning their respective school premises.
At the MAXI Fair 2015, the initiative is to witness a unique initiative of washing relay that has been undertaken by the Marketing Association of XLRI (MAXI) with the support of leading hygiene product brand Dettol at the XLRI campus on 18th January. This initiative will also attempt create a Guinness World Record for the largest hand washing relay. MAXI aims to create a record with at least 1000 people taking part in the hand washing relay, breaking the previous record of 650 created in Sri Lanka in October and expects all residents of Jamshedpur to be a part of the relay.
This MAXI Fair 2015 will also be witnessing the launch of a unique start-up venture by XLRI students – ‘Hobby in a Box’.
A one-stop solution for your do-it-yourself ideas founded by Manveen (PGDBM student in XLRI), Sarthak (PGDBM student in XLRI) with Nishant (pursuing management studies at IIMB), ‘Hobby in a Box’ provides all the hobby supplies in the required quantity and with easy instructions as a Hobby Kit.
“The craft products and supplies market is fragmented and quality products are not available easily.
We had put up jewellery stalls in flea markets such as Kitsch Mandi and Sunday Soul Santé in Bangalore. Customers loved the products, but they also wanted to know the procedure for making the products. We talked to craft enthusiasts in trade fairs and realized that they faced problems in procurement of supplies and finding trendy and fashionable DIY ideas and not just paper crafts. We also did a research with school students, teachers and parents in Jamshedpur and we got a positive feedback on our concept”, said Manveen, Sarthak, and Nishant.
“It is also difficult for a person to gauge the quality of the products unless he uses it. We research top on-going trends in Hobbies be it kids craft or home décor. If we like a hobby project, we try out different supplies available in the market for making it. Only when we are satisfied with the result we choose the suppliers. Also, since we experiment so much, we devise easy to understand and relevant instructions to guide our customers through the process. Each of us has taken up one aspect of the business as per his/her skill and interest – online marketing, supply chain streamlining, technology and analytics. We have a lot of fun working together”, they added.
Till now operating through their Facebook page, ‘Hobby in a Box’ from now will be fully operational on their own website including COD delivery and free shipping and looks forward to add more hobby kits. They have recently launched a YouTube channel which contains our video tutorials of Do it Yourself Hobby ideas.
At the grand opening of ‘Hobby in a Box’ at the MAXI Fair 2015, they will be hosting demos of candle making, jewelry making, purse designing. The hobby kits are to be available for sale and will also be offering surprise gifts and inaugural offers at the Hobby in a Box Stall at Maxi fair.
“We have plans of conducting our first workshop in Jamshedpur soon after”, remarked Manveen, Sarthak, and Nishant.
Maxi fair is supported every year by major Corporates like HUL, ITC, Star TV and Airtel to conduct research on more than six thousand plus attendees of the fair. The research is conducted through elaborate games designed by students of XLRI. Apart from the market research games, Maxi fair also includes recreational activities for youngsters like paintball, zorbing, video games, merry go round, fancy dress competition etc. Among all the fun and frolic attendees purchase exotic handicrafts and devour mouth-watering delicacies at the food stalls.
